Alison’s practice consists primarily of advising employers on employee benefits and executive compensation matters. She advises employers on compliance obligations under an increasingly complex set of rules imposed on retirement plans and welfare plans such as health, life and disability insurance plans. Alison is a leader in the firm in providing advice regarding compliance with HIPAA privacy rules for health plans and regarding compliance with tax code Section 409A’s potential penalties on deferred and executive compensation plans. She regularly advises employers regarding incentive compensation, including equity-based compensation and executive benefit plans. Alison strives to provide practical advice and innovative solutions to her client’s issues and obligations.
While benefits issues have common application to employers in many industries, a large portion of Alison’s practice consists of advising employers in the health care services industry. These employers have unique issues due to the composition of their workforce. Wide variations in the sophistication and income levels of employees create communications challenges as well as retirement plan nondiscrimination compliance concerns. Alison also regularly assists employers in banking, manufacturing, utilities, retail food service, and other service industries with their benefit plans and executive compensation programs.
