Upcoming international travel plans? It is now more important than ever to carefully plan, weigh potential risks and understand your available coverages. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of countries are imposing quarantine requirements on arriving travelers in order to help prevent the spread of travel-related cases of coronavirus in their respective countries.

Quarantine requirements vary by destination. Some countries are imposing mandatory 14-day quarantines on all travelers arriving within their borders. Others are performing screenings for novel coronavirus at airports, including temperature checks, with quarantine being imposed if a traveler has a fever. In some instances, only individuals traveling from certain countries considered “high-risk,” such as China, will be quarantined.

If you’ve purchased a travel insurance policy for your trip, read your policy carefully. While most travel insurance carriers consider the coronavirus pandemic a foreseen event in January 2020, certain coverages may still apply depending upon your policy, your trip details and date of purchase, including whether certain benefits may be available in the event your trip is impacted by these travel restrictions.
