Frost Brown Todd’s Mason Clutter authored an article for Security Magazine, “Take a Look Inside: Managing and Mitigating Insider Risk.”

Clutter emphasizes that insider threats, whether inadvertent or malicious, pose a serious challenge to organizations and require a proactive, tailored approach.

“There’s no one-size-fits-all solution,” she said, noting that each organization must define insider risk based on its own assets, operations, and culture.

She adds that insider risk isn’t limited to employees. “All individuals with access to or knowledge of an organization’s computers, networks, facilities, information, or personnel are potential insider threats, including vendors and contractors,” Clutter explains. “The ability to intentionally use or accidentally misuse any of this information can breach confidentiality, reveal trade secrets, cause a data security incident, or harm an organization’s personnel, ultimately impacting its reputation and ability to do business.”
