Intellectual property and patent attorney Courtney J. Miller has joined Frost Brown Todd (FBT) as a member in the firm’s Columbus office. Miller has 20 years of experience in U.S. and foreign patent procurement, international patent practice, patent and trademark portfolio management, and patent-related legal opinions, as well as product and technology development and commercialization. He joins nearly 40 additional attorneys in FBT’s Intellectual Property Law and Litigation Practice Group throughout the firm’s eight-state footprint.

Miller focuses his law practice on obtaining high-value patents, developing patent strategies, managing large patent portfolios, providing freedom-to-operate opinions, and negotiating and drafting technology commercialization agreements. He has significant legal and technical knowledge in the areas of medical devices, drug delivery systems, biotechnology and molecular biology, advanced welding and joining technologies, and consumer products. Miller also assists clients with obtaining FDA clearance for medical devices. Prior to practicing law, Miller spent 10 years as a research scientist at Battelle Memorial Institute.

Miller earned a B.A. in Biology from the College of Wooster in Ohio. He earned his J.D. and LL.M. in business law at Capital University Law School, where he was a staff member and executive notes editor for the Capital University Law Review. He is a frequent author, panelist, and speaker on various legal and business topics and has been an executive mentor for the Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Commercialization course at the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University.
